Wirral Boot Hub

Wirral Boot Hub

Supporting the community

Wirral Boot Hub (Facebook group) was launched in January 2021, by Dan Stewart, Greenleas Saints U7’s manager. The aim of Wirral Boot Hub is to provide free football boots to children who’s parents may not be able to afford them, so that they can play football.

We spoke to Dan to find out more on this fantastic community initiative.

“The idea came about as a number of the parents on my team mentioned how quickly the boys were changing their boots due to the boys growing, and with lockdown it has meant boots have sometimes only been worn on a handful of occasions and are in great condition. It seemed crazy to throw them away, so I looked to see if there was somewhere I could donate them and I couldn’t find anywhere, so I decided to set up Wirral Boot Hub on Facebook. With the financial pressure brought by COVID-19, it’s clear that some parents are not in the position to ensure their son or daughter has the right footwear to play football at the moment. Wirral Boot Hub eases that pressure by offering free second hand football footwear that has been donated by members of our community.

I’ve spoken to local schools and charities and it’s clear the demand is there. The Facebook group has more than a 150 followers now, which is great, and we have been able to provide over 100 pairs of boots to local children already.

If people would like to donate any old pairs of children’s boots for both primary and secondary school aged children, give Wirral Boot Hub a follow on Facebook and drop the page a message on Messenger. We ask that the boots to be cleaned and we ensure Covid controls are in place for collecting or drop off.”

A brilliant initiative, well done Dan for supporting grassroots football and the local community. Give Wirral Boot Hub a follow on Facebook.
